2,500 Children and Their Families Devastated to Learn Christmas Is Cancelled

Indianapolis, IN – It has been a long and discouraging day at Edison School of the Performing Arts, IPS 47, as the administration learns that United Way is unable to help thousands of children and their families with food and gifts this holiday season.

“It breaks my heart,” says Miss Penny Guthrie, Director of Advancement and Engagement for the performing arts IPS magnet. “We know that United Way did everything they could to help us and all of the children throughout the IPS district but we are quite discouraged and overwhelmed at the amount of children who were not able to be helped.”

Not to be deterred, Miss Guthrie and the rest of the dedicated Edison staff set out to collect enough money and toys to fill the need themselves and The Bindy Agency immediately decided to join forces with the school’s effort.

Sarah Hendrix, co-owner and operator of the local marketing and design firm, knew they wanted to do as much as they could to help. “When we went to the school this morning, we were shocked to find out how far the reach extended beyond Edison. We have made it our mission to make sure Santa spoils every child this holiday.”

The company is now spending the next few days on what they have entitled “Indy Christmas Rescue” and they want to start by sending out a message of hope and unity to Indianapolis and beyond. “We as a community cannot let our children down. Our city must stand together and be an example to everyone how true Hoosier hospitality means going above and beyond for those we can affect,” says Hendrix.

The company is hard at work setting up a donation website at www.indychristmasrescue.com where you can learn how to volunteer and where to donate. The site should be up and running by 7 pm. “We need businesses willing to collect toys immediately. After that, we will need people to transport, organize, wrap and get them to the families in need. We are working on the details but we are open to linking arms with any good Samaritan who wants to lend a hand in making this miracle happen.” Anyone wanting to lend a hand, email sarah@thebindyagency.com. More details will follow as rescue plans emerge.
